Michael Vick and Rampant Hypocrisy

August 14th, 2009

I’m really starting to get annoyed.

REALLY annoyed.

As of yesterday, Michael Vick is officially a Philadelphia Eagle. Many of my tweeps who claim to love Jesus are unhappy about this. He killed dogs, it’s horrible news, how could they employ such a person? At first, it just rubbed me the wrong way as a football fan who is aware that teams play to win games, not be shining examples of morality. Afterall, if Vick makes Philly money, why should they care about his past transgressions? That’s capitalism, baby.

But now, it’s taken a turn. My feelings, that is. See… it’s continuing to bubble as people continue to make comments and I can’t help but think of the overwhelming hypocrisy of it all.

Not in a “I’m sure glad Jesus gave me a second chance” kind of way. Though there is a lot of truth there. No, what I can’t help but think is that each and every one of you is a murderer too.

Every. One.

Me included.

We’re all murderers. And not of dogs, of people. We’re all murderers. Every single one of us. Didn’t Jesus say, “I’m telling you that anyone who is so much as angry with a brother or sister is guilty of murder.” That’s just what the Bible says. Period.

We ALL murder, but by the grace of God. And don’t you EVER forget it.

yes. it does say that. in the message. which no one should ever read. ever.

    i lied once… or twice… a handful of times.

under the law, he served his time. the end. don’t really understand why everyone wants to punish him more. ray lewis may have killed someone and then won super bowl mvp, donte stallworth killed someone and got suspended and no one cares, michael vick kills dogs and it’s “OH NO YOU DIDN’T!”

apparently in our culture, dogs are more vaiuable than people. weird.

You’ve found me out. I quoted from The Message. I don’t know what’s happening to me.

Same principle in every other translation when read in context, though.

so, let’s be honest, it’s Philly and we make a big deal out of everything–but the reality is that if it helps us get closer to winning the super bowl, i can’t really complain and i should probably feel guilty about that, but, i’m from Philly, so I don’t. :) my initial reaction to Vick becoming an Eagle has now officially been over shadowed by the glow of the Lombardi Trophy! and I am sure the rest of southeastern PA will eventually come to the same conclusion.
And for the record, I definitely believe in second chances.

For all of the people complaining now about Vick:

Where were you when the Rams welcomed back Leonard Little into the league? Ray Lewis?

    Get over yourselves!

Besides, with T.O. nobody has a chance to take down Buffalo this year…….

    Well I can dream can’t I?

I agree completely. Those without sin cast the first stone.
